Wexford born and bred, Mick Wallace has been involved in football all his life. For 16 years he has coached the county’s under-16 and under-18 sides through the most successful period in their history, taken teams to Turin for training and tournaments since 1999, reached four All-Ireland finals in seven years and sunk a deep well of latent talent. In late 2006, Wallace applied for a license to join the new League of Ireland. His application was granted and Wexford Youths joined the First Division in time for the 2007 season.
Since joining the League of Ireland, the ‘Youths have finished no lower than 9th, played in the final of the league cup and continue to draw good support from around the county.
“People who run sports organisations in the country are like social workers. They’re providing a social facility to help young people feel better about themselves. We can improve the fabric of society and the way young people look at things - how they treat their elders, their own parents, how they treat themselves and their peers. Being a mentor of any sort, like a football manager, gives you a chance to improve the communities they live in. That’s the biggest thing of all.” - Mick Wallace.
Shane Keegan joins Wexford Youths FC for the 2012 season from FC Carlow, where has spent the last two seasons. A Laois native, Shane completed his 'A' Licence in 2010 and is currently undertaking his Pro Licence.
