Back to Business for Youths

Wexford Youths FC are back in action on Friday night after the League’s week long break. The Youths welcome Athlone Town to Ferrycarrig Park in what promises to be a tough and gruelling encounter as always. The game kicks off at 7.30pm rather than the usual 8pm start time. Before the break commenced Wexford recorded an impressive 1-0 victory over a rejuvenated Longford Town side with Gary Sheahan bagging a late winner. Mick Wallace’s men found it third time lucky against Longford and Wallace will be hoping that his side can use that victory to spur them on tomorrow night. However, Athlone are a tough, solid unit and will be a stern test for the Youths. Athlone had an impressive start to the season, but since Wexford beat them 1-0 at Lissywoollen earlier in the year their League season has become a bit derailed. The beauty of football is that you can take nothing for granted and even though four positions and ten points separate these sides, it’s anyone’s to win and Wallace knows that.

“The week long break was beneficial for some players to get some rest, but the only problem is that complacency might slip in and Athlone could capitalise on that. We had a great win against an ever improving Longford side before the break, but it will count for nothing if we don’t get a result on Friday” said Wallace.

Conor Sinnott and Paul Malone are unavailable for the game on Friday as they are not back from holidays yet. Although there is positive news for Wallace as Keith Kearney returns to fold and will be hoping to slot back into the starting line up. Gavin Doyle is back from holidays and he too will be available for selection.

“Athlone are a strong side and they will be really up for this game, we have to make sure that we’re prepared and that the week long break doesn’t affect us” Wallace said.
