Wallace hoping for Mervue magic
Wexford Youths travel to Galway for the first time ever in the League of Ireland when they take on Mervue United at Terryland Park on Friday night. Both sides come into this fixture in relatively poor form with the home side losing their last eight games, one including a 7-0 defeat to Shelbourne, while the Youths only have one win in four. Therefore both Mick Wallace and Johnny Glynn will be hoping that their luck changes tomorrow night.
The Youths seem to have lost their impressive early season form after defeats to Kildare County and more recently Monaghan United. However, Wallace points out that its his sides home form that could end up ruining their season.
“Our home form this season has been fairly poor to date. We have won nine fixtures away this season, but only four at home, it’s usually the other way around with us” said Wallace.
The Youths will be able to call upon the services of several key players for the game with Peter White available for selection after missing the last few games. Also several of the U18 players such as Jimmy Keohane, Chris Kenny, Robert Vickers and Martin Kehoe are available after their victorious outing in the Melbourne Cup last weekend. Keith Kearney is still unavailable through injury and also Gareth McCurtin is suspended for the trip to Galway. Danny Furlong made his long awaited come back in a friendly outing against Arklow Town last week and he will be hoping for some game time.
“Mervue may not be in the best of form, but we can’t take anything for granted. They have lost points to a lot of late goals this season and are unlucky not to be higher up the League. The big sides have come to Terryland Park and struggled so we know what to expect” said a cautious Mick Wallace.
