Youths searching for derby victory

Wexford Youths travel to the RSC on Saturday night to take on table topping Waterford United. Stephen Henderson’s men know that this is a massive weekend in the League with UCD facing Sporting Fingal and his team involved in another derby, there can be no room for complacency. However, Mick Wallace’s Youths side will be up for the challenge, especially former Waterford United players Packie Holden and David Breen. Breen missed out on the chance to play his former employers earlier in the season and he will be hoping to make amends come Saturday night.

Wallace has doubts over top goal scorer Gavin Doyle and he will be hoping that he comes through a fitness test. However, even if he does, it’s doubtful if he will start the game. This gives Wallace a bit of a problem in terms of the striking department with Danny Furlong, Paul Murphy and Jimmy Keohane also missing. This means that Gary Sheahan may get his first League start and also that a few of the U18 players may be drafted in. David Miller and Johnny Flynn O’Connor are also set to miss the game.

“We know how difficult a game this is going to be, Waterford are in fantastic form and have to be favourites to win the League” said Wallace

“Waterford beat us at home earlier in the season by a single goal, but we felt we could have got something out of the game with a bit of luck. It’s a difficult game for us to have on the back of last weeks defeat and the fact that Waterford beat Sporting Fingal 4-1 just highlights that” Wallace said.

“We have a lot of injuries going into this game, so we’re clearly the underdogs. I may have to start some of the youngsters from the U18 squad on Saturday night” Wallace stated.
